- The Churchills
Main Performer
Dave Sleger
This is a highly engaging collection of smart alterna-pop that owes as much to Squeeze as to the Spongetones. The songs are cleverly written with a keen sense of melody as the Churchills incorporate '60s pop sensibilities with Don Dixon's post-new wave jangle. Songwriters Ron Haney (vocals and guitar) and Bart Schoudel (bass), at the tutelage of producers Steve Dudas and Mark Hart, have developed and accelerated their craft well beyond that of an upstart band with two albums to their name. Second guitarist Kim Henry adds another appealing dimension to their sound as she contributes female vocals to the equation. Their occasional harder alternative edge also separates the Churchills from many of the more popular alterna-pop bands who gravitate more heavily toward the pop end of the spectrum. ~ Dave Sleger, Rovi
