More an offering to the faithful than anything approaching a new Hawkwind album, and probably not something that the casual listener would want to get close to, Take Me to Your Future is a fascinating package that serves as a trailer for various then-forthcoming Hawkwind projects, and a reminder of a few older ones -- yes, "Silver Machine" is here, and so is "Uncle Sam's on Mars," opening the set in its usual manic form. But then you flip the double disc over and the visual action begins: seven performances that include the band rehearsing a dramatic "Steppenwolf" at Dave Brock's farm, with the dancers still learning the ropes; an Australian TV performance of "Utopia"; a mesmerizing "Assassins of Allah," filmed in London in 2005; and a handful more graphics-heavy pieces that include "Images," "Paradox," and "Don't Be Donkish." Oh, and a sub-bootleg but brilliant piece of festival footage, prowling through "The Golden Void." ~ Dave Thompson, Rovi
