The "rhythm" (or instrumental backing track) on which this collection of ragga dancehall performances is based was written by Harvel "Gadaffi" Hart of Annex Records, and is one of the more compelling tracks to be released in Greensleeves' long series of "rhythm albums" (on which a crowd of singers and deejays are all invited to set their own lyrics to the same accompaniment). The usual suspects are gathered for this one, including Vybz Kartel, Anthony B, Kiprich, and Bobo Dread mainstays Capleton and Sizzla. The "Summer Bounce" rhythm is varied slightly from track to track in order to keep things from getting too awfully tedious, but as is always the case with albums like this, it's much better as a source from which to cherry-pick for DJ sets or party mixes than as an end-to-end listening experience. For cherry-picking purposes, consider giving top priority to Sizzla, whose anti-slack "Girls Dem Cute" is sharp and intricate, "Chocolate Eyes" (a nice three-way collaboration between Merciless, Vybz Kartel and Insane) and Determine's intricate "Mi a Ras." Feel free to ignore the nerve-shreddingly obnoxious and rhythmically klutzy Sky Juice. Recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi
