Rise is a four-song, 15 1/2-minute CD single containing the title track, which is culled from the American Music Club's Everclear album, and three non-album tracks. "Rise" is one of the album's more accessible tunes, while the additional numbers are some of Mark Eitzel's more esoteric compositions. "Chanel #5" is a portrait of a woman taken at a funeral tempo, "The Right Thing" is a country two-step telling a tale of doubtful romantic commitment--"It don't take much of the right thing," Eitzel notes--and "Crabwalk" is another slow crawl through the nightclub world, among other things. Inessential, but the cult will want to know. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
