Reggae Masters, Vol.1 is a mishmash of reggae tracks without any kind of clear focus, and that the DVD disc contains reggae Christmas videos only adds to the thrown together and see what sticks to the wall feel of this release. The music itself is fine, although several of the tracks are either live or re-recorded versions rather than the original single release, as in the case of Desmond Dekker's "Israelites," which is obviously a do-over. It's always nice to hear cuts like Dave & Ansel Collins' goofy "Double Barrel" in any context, but everything here is easily available elsewhere, so unless you're in the market for reggae Christmas videos, this is hardly an essential package. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
