Live Rock Masters, from the Sanctuary Records group label Immergent, is a set of material by arena rock acts that comes in DualDisc format with a bonus DVD on the flip. A look at the track list on the back reveals only songs and performers: nowhere does it say that these are performances by the original lineups. Some of the tracks are original; some aren't. In the case of Humble Pie it is, but with Lynyrd Skynyrd it's a gig from 1997 with Johnny Van Zandt; with UFO, it's from a 1992 show and Michael Schenker is nowhere to be heard; Blue ?yster Cult's cut comes from an edition of the band with only three original members. Get the picture? It's a crapshoot. That's not to say there isn't good music here, there is, in places, like Eddie Money's live performance, REO Speedwagon's "Ridin' the Storm Out," which is great, as is .38 Special's "Hold on Loosely," live from the Sturgis Biker road rally -- but wading your way through it all is tricky. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
