Fractal Zoom, a companion to the CD EP Ali Click, features 11 lengthy mixes of the title track. Originally found on Eno's Nerve Net (1992), this great techno rocker with incomprehensible lyrics is prime material in the hands of Moby, responsible for seven of the mixes, and Markus Draws, who turns in four. There is some refreshing and even unlikely material here. Isaac Osapanin spices the "Up River Mix" with a taste of bongos, while "Small Country" contains David Byrne-like lyrics not included on the album version of "Fractal Zoom." Tracks nine and ten, the "Landed Mix" and "Bucolic Mix," are ambient takes on the original cut. "Landed" is particularly subtle and both mixes resemble the atmospheric work on Music for Films and Apollo. "The Roil, the Choke," also originally from Nerve Net, finds Eno creating words and rhymes based on the phonetic roots "oil" and "oke." The composition contains some of the same ingredients (structure and sound) found in earlier Eno works, such as "The Belldog," "Spider and I" and "The River." ~ David Ross Smith, Rovi
