While this collection of the late, great Gary Stewart is far from complete, it is representative of the last link to hard country and honky tonk music. This one sparingly covers all of his RCA albums as a solo artist and with Dean Dillon. Given that there are only ten tracks here it is gratifying to say that none of them are dispensable. From "She's Actin' Single (I'm Drinkin' Doubles)," "Out of Hand," and his amazing covers of Hank Williams' "Honky Tonkin'" and Danny O'Keefe's "Quits," to a definitive rendition of Michael Murphey's "Backslider's Wine," this is a knockout selection of tracks. Too bad there's not more, because Stewart had plenty -- he never issued a bad record. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
