Summary: A word of explanation may be helpful: in lieu of the reality series suggested by the title, the Real Life Teens series actually constitutes a series of documentary programs that provide down-to-earth advice and counsel for teenagers on dealing with the vicissitudes of adolescence. Each program utilizes candid, from-the-hip interviews with actual teens, speaking from the wisdom of life experience, and each incorporates adult insights. The episode entitled "Teen Rebellion" hinges on a universal truth: the fact that, although the formation of an independent identity and psychological separation from one's parents are normal and healthy components of adolescence, these tendencies may occasionally manifest themselves in negative forms: certain kinds rebellion, ambivalence and defiance. Here, teenagers talk about their own experiences with - and attitudes toward - rebellion. The program helps young viewers distinguish between positive and negative forms of rebellion, and teaches teens how to discriminate and choose one versus the other. Additional subtopics include: anger issues, the role of parents, respect and permission, and dealing with disappointment. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
