Developer: Nintendo EAD
Style(s): Side-Scrolling Platform
Synopsis: Mario's first appearance on 3DS has the plucky plumber jumping, stomping, and running in a glasses-free 3D environment. Mario can use some familiar power-ups and costumes from previous games, including the Tanooki suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 and the fire flower, as well as new techniques like a dash move and rolling somersault attack. Mario will even be able to grab onto a special propeller box that lets him fly for a short while or grab a flower that lets him fling boomerangs. While the look is reminiscent of Super Mario 64, the game plays more like a side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. title, with a number of tweaks to the presentation to take advantage of the system's 3D capabilities. The goal in each stage is to reach and slide down a flagpole before time expires. Along the way, Mario will confront new enemy variants like Goombas with tails, vertical stacks of Goombas, and ink-spitting piranha plants. The game also includes Luigi as a playable character and uses the system's StreetPass feature for exchanging and receiving bonus items with other players. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
