Synopsis: Brought to the States by rookie publisher 7Sixty, Phantom Breaker is a high-velocity 2D fighting game, designed for Xbox 360 by Japan's 5pb. The game is intended to be accessible to newcomers, with satisfying button-mashed onslaughts, but expertly timed strikes and blocks fill an "Overdrive" meter, which empowers the character with faster attacks or improved defense. Female fighters outnumber males on the roster, with a variety of combat styles available among them all. Character design is anime-influenced, and the action is fast and full of special effects, reminiscent of games in the BlazBlue series. Phantom Breaker's backstory involves a mysterious fighting tournament, in which the winner is granted a wish. Head-to-head multiplayer battles are available over Xbox Live. Phantom Breaker debuts at North American retail in a "Special Edition" package that contains an illustrated strategy guide, a desk calendar featuring characters from the game, and two double-sided posters. ~ T.J.
