Ubisoft's Just Dance was one of the biggest surprises of 2009, refusing to fall from the bestsellers list when higher profile titles shuffled, spun, and sashayed out of the public's eye. Just Dance 2 doesn't mess with the Ubisoft's golden goose by doing anything extraordinary. It's basically everything you might expect from a sequel (more of everything that worked, less of everything that didn't ) in an appealing package that's sure to shatter the solid-gold sales of the original. Just Dance 2's presentation goes for simple yet stylish. A neon-colored silhouette of the dancer you're supposed to follow is placed front and center, with helpful pictograms showing what moves are coming next. The look is remarkably similar to the graphics used in Apple's iPod advertising. The interface is as minimalistic as the visuals. Holding just the Wii Remote, you simply (or not-so-simply) follow the dancer's on-screen movements while the song plays in the background. Part of the fun is watching family members struggle, but as they are flailing about or wiggling things they don't normally wiggle, they are almost guaranteed to be smiling. And that's the secret to Just Dance's success: provide a non-intimidating outlet for anyone to get up in front of the television screen and try their best to follow authentic routines recorded by professional dancers. The original game was notoriously poor about tracking your movements, but most didn't care because the music and dance steps were entertaining by themselves. Just Dance 2 does a considerably better job at motion tracking, which is important since you can now improve on past scores. The songs have also increased in number, with the ability to download more tunes via Internet (for 300 Wii Points apiece) and save them to an SD card. As before there are a nice mix of styles and artists included, from Donna Summer and Elvis to the Beastie Boys and Blondie. Four new play modes are also included, allowing up to eight players to compete in humorous team-based or free-for-all faceoffs, the option to dance as two-person teams in duets, burn some calories in a "just sweat" format that offers three intensity options, and more. Favorite modes from the first game are still available, offering variants such as Simon Says, a race to fill up your score gauge, and so forth. If the idea of your significant other, child, or parent shaking it like a Polaroid picture to OutKast's amp;"Hey Ya!" sounds even remotely appealing, then Just Dance 2 is a must-have title. Will the game make you a better dancer? Probably not, but it will, for one brief shining moment at a party, wedding, or club, let you be the center of attention. Hopefully, it will be for the right reason. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
