Synopsis: One of the most celebrated role-playing games of the '90s makes its dual-screen debut with Chrono Trigger. The core gameplay, visuals, and storyline remain identical to the 16-bit version released in 1995. Katana-wielding Crono and his friends embark on a time-traveling quest to alter the past and save the world from an alien threat named Lavos. Team up with a cast of unusual heroes, including a frog and robot, while exploring both prehistoric and futuristic locales from an overhead perspective. Engage foes in a battle system that combines menu-driven commands with time-sensitive actions for each party member. You'll also solve puzzles, master special abilities called techs, complete quests, and interact with a wide assortment of characters. In addition to presenting the game on two screens, the DS version of Chrono Trigger introduces a touch-screen interface, new areas to explore, and wireless support. The original version's controls are included as well. The "Dimensional Vortex" and the "Lost Sanctum" provide new challenges to your party, while the "Arena of the Ages" lets you raise and train a creature to battle other creatures. The latter lets you enter head-to-head matches with friends via wireless connection. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

Thirteen years after its acclaimed debut, Chrono Trigger is introduced to a new generation of gamers on DS. Square Enix has done an amazing job piecing together this version so that it appeals to those new to the series, as well as veteran fans longing to do battle on the fields of time. While the story and main content remain unchanged, the handheld's distinct capabilities enhance the play mechanics. The touch screen is used to coordinate attacks, leaving the main screen uncluttered and presenting a full view of battle. For purists, the classic option features the same interface found in the Super NES game. Chrono Trigger for DS also includes bonus dungeons, animated cut-scenes, maps, a list of all the possible endings, and wireless capabilities that let you engage in monster battles. The visuals are crisp, the sound quality is great, the music is addictive, and the dialogue has been polished and reworded while still remaining true to the original game. Players will also appreciate the fast pacing and endearing, easy-to-follow storyline. If you missed this title the first time around, or if you are feeling nostalgic, Chrono Trigger is a highly recommended purchase. After all, some adventures are simply timeless.
