Working independently and strategically, the Director of Trends leads the organization?s strategy for trends/lifestyles product development and distribution across multiple channels through a team of Category Managers and Buyers. Position reports to the Vice President of Merchandising.

This hands-on strategist performs many of the traditional functions of a retail buying professional along with the development and distribution of product assortments, the completion and application of ongoing consumer trends analyses and managing margins. Must lead contract negotiations, ensure his or her team is tracking and reporting inventory and orders, and collaborate with members of the Marketing and Ecommerce teams regularly.

The principal outcome for this role is to maximize Hastings profitable market share by supporting the organization?s ongoing merchandising strategy related to a varied selection and a robust product assortment that can be delivered to an increasingly diverse customer base.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for future platforms or business change.
  • Select, direct, develop, correct and retain team members; coach/mentor employees and provide ongoing performance feedback based upon clear, relevant, measureable performance objectives.
  • Provide guidance, set priorities, and assist direct reports.
  • Verify execution of team?s key initiatives such as merchandising standards, product set integrity, product training, and visual merchandising.
  • Interpret data, develop action plans, and execute through their merchant team.
  • Develop direct performance related to open-to-buy, margin targets, inventory levels, and the GMROI metrics to achieve overall company sales and profit targets.
  • Create, develop, and sustain productive business relationships internally and externally.
  • Forecast and respond favorably to emerging consumer buying behaviors.
  • Foster an environment that welcomes change and that promotes high levels of ingenuity and creative thinking, risk tolerance, and collaboration.
  • Prepare appropriate financial models, budgets, and business plans.
  • Drive strategic development, including visual merchandising and marketing.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of merchandising experience required, with 3 or more years in a significant leadership role
  • Accredited bachelor?s degree in business, marketing, or related field required; master?s degree in a related business field preferred
  • Superior negotiating skills
  • Expert knowledge of merchandising, logistics and distribution
  • Expert relationship building skills, including the capacity to predict and manage behavior, build and leverage cross-functional partnerships within and outside of the organization, and leverage influential leadership
  • Ability to work under demanding time constraints and goals
  • Expert organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple, overlapping, and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Willingness to travel

The Fixed Asset Accountant will support fixed assets accounting and month-end close activity. The Fixed Asset Accountant will assist in research and practical application with adherence to GAAP. This person will also prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, fixed asset maintenance and general ledger reconciliation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Processing/Vouchering Health Permits and Business Licenses
  • Payment/Prepayment of Sales and Use Taxes
  • Payment/Prepayment of Internet Sales and Use Taxes
  • Responsible for Fixed Assets Accounting including Depreciation, Asset Retirement & Work in Process
  • Vouchering of Personal Property Taxes
  • VISA monthly processing
  • Processing monthly Rental, CAM, Tax and Insurance payments and reconciliations

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of fixed asset accounting experience
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Peoplesoft experience preferred
  • Great communication and organization skills

As a member of the purchasing staff the Book Buyer will be responsible for evaluating and purchasing new titles to add to our selection, driving sales through creative ideas and promotions, managing inventory and sell-through while maximizing profits, negotiating the best terms from vendors, understanding and expressing product merchandising needs and ideas, and staying on top of industry trends and translating those trends (where appropriate) into product offerings for stores.

Requirements:

  • Relocation to Amarillo, TX and must be willing to travel
  • High School Diploma/GED (2 years college preferred)
  • Previous buying experience in the retail industry
  • Passion for books and previous retail experience

Hastings Store Managers are responsible for managing the store by supervising and executing corporate plans and actions as well as creating a positive team atmosphere and increasing sales by utilizing company financial reports.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day store operations to achieve targeted productivity, sales, and profitability goals.
  • Control staffing and turnover levels within the store.
  • Actively mentor and develop Managers in Training.
  • Oversee store personnel and ensure that all corporate policies and procedures are followed.
  • Maintain awareness of competitors and their promotions and offerings.
  • Ensure associates keep stores clean, well organized, and properly merchandised.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management or a related field or two years retail management experience.
  • Experience in a specialty chain, discount, department, or other mass merchandising store.

The Fixture Set Manager is responsible for the installation of all fixtures in a retail store following the fixtures layout. They are responsible in whole or in part for all items, reports, processes, and procedures associated with installation, and ordering of fixtures for assigned projects. The Fixture Set Manager will also be responsible for handling additional requests from Fixture Shop management or outside departments that arise during a normal course of business.

  • Record all purchase orders daily basis from vendors, into project budgets.
  • Timely and proper reviewing of the fixture layouts to work of fixture cost estimates and purchase orders for needed items.
  • Coordinate additional personal during the fixture set process, record time records on a daily basis.  Communicate the fixture set timeline daily and weekly to applicable team members during fixture set..
  • Coordinate daily & weekly schedule for set process and cover with other set team members.  
  • Reconcile expense statements received from travel expenses on a weekly basis and ensure proper coding to project budget.
  • Track all freight shipments to projects to ensure on time delivery and cost containment. .
  • Coordinate the daily installation of fixtures per fixture set plan during the schedule set up schedule.
  • Assist with the disposition of fixtures from closed stores and remodels to the fixture shop for reuse.
  • Ability to direct a team of 8-10 associates during the fixture set process and control labor and expenses related to the fixture installations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel to include maintenance of spreadsheets
