As a member of the purchasing staff the Category Manager will be responsible for providing Category Management insights to internal leadership to enhance go-to-market programs, innovation, and sales strategies. Other responsibilities include vendor relationship management, deal negotiations, and purchasing.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and communicate overall merchandising strategies based on department operating plan.
  • Research and define major business opportunities to support vendor, customer, and company goals.
  • Staff development, including performance management of Buyers, succession planning, and training.

Requirements:

  • Relocation to Amarillo, TX
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years purchasing/direct buy experience
  • Experience as a Hastings Store or Assistant Manager with at least two years company experience
  • Negotiation experience with proven cost saving efforts
  • Working knowledge of syndicated data and applications
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • A self starter with a verifiable sense of urgency
  • Must be willing and able to travel

Hastings Store Managers are responsible for managing the store by supervising and executing corporate plans and actions as well as creating a positive team atmosphere and increasing sales by utilizing company financial reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day store operations to achieve targeted productivity, sales, and profitability goals.
  • Control staffing and turnover levels within the store.
  • Actively mentor and develop Managers in Training.
  • Oversee store personnel and ensure that all corporate policies and procedures are followed.
  • Maintain awareness of competitors and their promotions and offerings.
  • Ensure associates keep stores clean, well organized, and properly merchandised.
  • Provide overall direction for the staff in terms of training and performance tracking.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management or a related field or two years retail management experience.
  • Experience in a specialty chain, discount, department, or other mass merchandising store
  • Proven track record of sales growth and results
  • Strong leadership, training, organizational, and time management skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Relocation may be required
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
