MusicBuyer

As a member of the Merchandising department the Music Buyer will be responsible for evaluating and purchasing new titles to add to our selection, driving sales through creative ideas and promotions, managing inventory and sell-through while maximizing profits, negotiating the best terms from vendors, and staying on top of industry trends and translating those trends (where appropriate) into product offerings for stores.

Quality Assurance Analyst

We are looking for a result-oriented, analytical individual who has excellent time management skills, to become a valuable member of our Hastings Information Technologies Department!
Responsibilities include testing application changes and enhancements before implementation to "live" production environment, creating and documenting testing scripts for applications, designing test plans, interacting directly with the application team in explaining and troubleshooting issues for resolution when necessary, and helping with end-user training documentation.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED (some technical college and/or computer related courses preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to move easily between varied tasks
  • Proficient working with Unix and in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Experience performing functional, integration, regression, and system testing
  • Ability to learn and train others on new skills, applications, systems, and technologies
  • Ability to look at applications and processes from the prospective of the end user
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Ability to work productively in a team driven and goal oriented environment
  • Knowledgeable in creating and executing SQL queries

Programmer

The Programmer is tasked to support and improve our systems. These systems range from our proprietary internal systems modules to financials and e-commerce. Perform a variety of programming assignments requiring knowledge of established programming procedures and data processing requirements. Maintain and modify programs based on architectural requirements and document said changes.

Duties and Tasks, including but not limited to the following:

  • Code, test and troubleshoot programs utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology
  • Maintain and modify programs; make approved changes by amending flow charts, develop detailed programming logic, and coding changes
  • Test and develop programming modifications
  • Ensures efficient and productive use of labor
  • Communicates associate evaluation deadlines to the responsible supervisors in a clear and timely manner
  • Write new program code using prescribed specifications
  • Evaluate simple interrelationships between programs such as whether a contemplated change in one part of a program would cause unwanted results in a related part
  • Analyze performance of programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with users and approval of supervisor
  • Confer with users to gain understanding of needed changes or modifications of existing programs. Resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls
  • Write and maintain programming documentation
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.
  • Document programming problems and resolutions for future reference
  • Work independently or as part of a team on assigned task and complete in a timely manner
  • Provide on the job training to new department staff members
  • Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported

Requirements:

Most of our systems are developed and maintained internally. Our primary database is IBM Informix but we also utilize IBM DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008. Our systems support all aspects of the company including all programming for our retail locations, our e-commerce business and corporate systems. These applications span multiple systems and technologies that require the following:

  • Relocation to Amarillo, TX
  • High School Diploma/GED with Minimum of 2 years college or technical school background
  • Bachelor Degree in Information Systems or related degree is preferred
  • General Programming Experience including, but not limited to: Java, .NET, 4gl, Genero, C/C++, Visual Basic, or Perl
  • Effective interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and a positive approach to challenge
