Actress Marlee Matlin was born in Morton Grove, Illinois on August 24, 1965. At the age of eighteen months, she lost all hearing in her right ear and 80% of the hearing in her left ear. At the age of 21, she won the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in Children of a Lesser God (1986). She also appeared in the movies Its My Party and What the Bleep Do We Know!? She has appeared on numerous television programs including Seinfeld, Picket Fences, The Practice, Law and Order: SVU, The West Wing, and The L Word. She is the author of Deaf Child Crossing, Nobodys Perfect, and Ill Scream Later.
