Hastings' Marmaduke Wins Entrepreneur of The Year Award

AMARILLO, Texas, June 25, 1998--John H. Marmaduke, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hastings Entertainment, Inc., has been awarded the prestigious 1998 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year for the Southwest Area's retail and consumers products industry group. The Ernst &Young Entrepreneur of the Year Program was established to honor entrepreneurs whose ingenuity, hard work, and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing business ventures. With the program now in its eleventh year, the criteria used in selecting the award recipients encompasses the nominee's qualifications, unique management skills, work experience, and major accomplishments including participation in business, community and civic organizations. In addition, the background of the nominee's company is thoroughly evaluated including the source of the idea for the original strategy, the financial risk involved, innovative approaches to management and marketing, the company's current stage of development and future prospects.

Mr. Marmaduke will be inducted into the Entrepreneur Of The Year Institute at the annual international conference to be held in Palm Springs, California in November, 1998. Ernst & Young LLP, the primary sponsor of the Entrepreneur Of The Year competition, is a leading professional financial services firm with more than 89 offices in the Unites States.
